Backup: the safety copy that saves your business

Nobody thinks about backups until the day they lose everything: a server goes down, an attack, something deleted by mistake. At that point, a simple backup copy is the difference between an hour's downtime and losing years of work.
What a backup is
A backup is a copy of your data, kept separately, from which you can restore everything if the original is lost. Your website, database and documents can and should all have a copy.
Simple rules for a good backup
- Automatic. A backup you have to make by hand will be forgotten. Let it run on its own, regularly.
- Separate. A copy kept on the same server as the original will not help if the server goes down. Keep it somewhere else.
- Tested. A backup you have never tested may not work when you need it. Check it from time to time.
- Recent. Back up your data as often as it changes.
Why it is cheaper than you think
The cost of a backup is small compared with what you would lose without one. Rebuilding data from scratch, if it is even possible, costs far more in time, money and lost customers.
